La Plaça Europa and la Fira have completely transformed the entrance
of this side of Barcelona; a mix of suburbs and obsolete industrial es-
tates has now become a city centre in its own right, with hotels, offices
and housing.
On the border between the old and the new, a plot of land, right on the
Gran Via, hosts a new construction.
With 15.400m2, 360 bedrooms and 12 floors, the new Fairfield hotel by
Marriott is organized around 2 semi-circular plans that maximize views
and avoids east - west façades.
With a Gold Leed certificate, the intention of the project is to minimize
its energetic and water demands, by not only implementing the latest
technologies, but also adopting a sensitive design in elements such
as the façade. This has been designed as a double skin that protects
the building form the direct impact of the sun, while the dimension of
the windows is based on their orientation, constantly changing due to
the circular shape of the plan.
