In Via Laietana num 42 of Barcelona, metrers away from the cathedral, stands a building from the early 20th century, originally intended for office use.
Over the years, the original building underwent a series of transformations, repairs due to a bombing during the war and restorations to its current appearance and use, the hotel.
However, many of the actions were marked by the immediacy and maximum use of the building, which has led it to have a very fragmented floor plan, with poorly ventilated interior rooms, and contradictions such as the original main access, currently occupied by an emergency exit.
A comprehensive reform is proposed, which, by rethinking the position of the stairs, allows the floor plan to be arranged around the original patio, recovering it and putting it to value to achieve a more orderly and coherent distribution.
In addition, the reform undoes some of the previous growths, to give air to the building, which is currently very suffocated by a program that does not fit.
